Adults and students in Kenya who have never studied German, or who only know isolated words. A1 is the start of the CEFR ladder — you are not expected to speak fluently on day one.

What you work on in A1

  • Introduce yourself, spell names, and give basic personal details.
  • Handle numbers, time, prices, and simple shopping or café exchanges.
  • Talk about family, daily routine, and where you live, in short sentences.
  • Use present tense, articles, and nominative/accusative in beginner patterns.

Exam this level prepares for

This level prepares you for Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start Deutsch 1) and ÖSD A1. Cianna does not run the exam. Goethe is sat at Goethe-Institut Kenya. ÖSD is sat at inLEGAS.
